History – “Tzimilareion”
The historic “Tzimilareion” is the old, now-ruined, but unique example of Byzantine olive mill architecture located just above the foot of the hill, at the center of Volvi Estate.
Built in 1324 AD, it is considered one of the oldest olive mills in the Mediterranean.
The mill is accompanied by centuries-old wild olive trees and the calm, reflective waters of Lake Volvi — a serene landscape where nature, heritage, and tradition coexist.
The Land - VOLVI Estate
Volvi Estate is located on the shores of Lake Volvi, within a protected Natura area, just 60 km east of Thessaloniki, Greece.
It is home to the largest wild olive forest in the Mediterranean, covering over 4,000 hectares with approximately 70,000 olive trees.
The estate also hosts one of the oldest olive groves in the region, evidenced by the historic Byzantine olive mill built in 1324 AD at its center, a testament to centuries of olive oil tradition.
Wild & Cultivated Olive Trees
The estate is home to ancient wild olive trees (Olea europaea var. sylvestris), which have grown naturally for centuries, nurtured only by the mild microclimate of Lake Volvi.
There are approximately 60,000 wild olive trees, from which the certified VOLVI ESTATE Wild Olive Oil is produced.
These wild olives coexist with 10,000 cultivated olive trees, from which classic extra virgin olive oil is also produced, blending tradition, biodiversity, and exceptional quality.
