Extra Virgin Olive Oils | Olympia Variety
The variety Olympia (Nemoutiana, Choraitiki, Ladolia) is a local variety found in Gortynia from the villages of Karytaina to the area of Thelpousa and Kontovazaina as well as in part of Mountainous Olympia & Messinia. It is a variety that has been found in the area for more than 1,500 years.
It is characterized by its significantly higher content (5 to 10 times) of phenolic compounds and specifically in Oleocanthal, which gives it its intense bitter taste.
Scientific studies at several universities have shown that it works beneficially by helping to prevent coronary heart disease and certain cancers.
Its aromas are reminiscent of bitter radish, tomato leaves, freshly cut grass, apple, artichoke and herbs.
